![]() Of course, there's no reason they couldn't go on both now with their change, so that helps. I suspect they want to change that, but they also seem against better discovery tools like Steam uses to help those sorts of games, so I wonder how well a more favorable split will matter if it's not really the main thinking point of most indie devs, I'd imagine? 12% of 200k vs 30% is a whole lot less than 12% vs 30% of 1, 10, or 100 million dollars, and Steam's indie scene is just massive in comparison.Īnd with Steam introducing and supporting more efforts to get exposure to up and coming indie games with Next Fest and encouraging demos and the like, I don't see EGS really able to do much about Steam's dominance over the indie devs, even with EGS's doors open. ![]() ![]() It's always Steam when you see a little studio find success. The little guys that hit it big-like Among Us and Vampire Survivors-never seem to appear on EGS. Vampire Survivors and V rising, in particular, I think were standout indie games that saw a good chunk of success (moreso the former), but they got none of that. The store isn't doing bad-with Genshin Impact, GTA 5 and Fortnite on it, it never will do bad-but I wouldn't say it's doing great either when their most notable gain from last year was Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, and I suspect that their opening their doors is a way to try and gain some of the indie dev scene that still showed a strong presence in 2022. The most high-profile PC game release in years and they weren't involved with it at all, I'm sure that stung. I bet whoever was tasked with trying to get Elden Ring on EGS got a very long, very stern talking to by Tim himself when that didn't happen and they just had to watch Steam take it all while Elden Ring went on to get award after award. With the tease of Genshin Impact potentially coming to steam (it was shown on Steamdeck a few months ago), and GTA 5 already on Steam with RL having a legacy presence on the platform, that leaves only 1/5 not on steam. Genshin Impact is the next latest release in 2020, with RL out in 2015, GTA 5 in 2013, and Fortnite in 2017. So the top 4 out of 5 games on EGS based on "spend and engagement" are games that didn't release in 2022. /r/GamePhysics - Clips of game physics shining and glitchingĭesign based on /r/FlatBlue created by /u/creesch./r/gaming4gamers - middle ground between purely-for-fun and more serious subreddits./r/GamingLeaksAndRumours - Leaks and Rumors. ![]() Posting unmarked spoilers will result in removal and warning, and posting spoilers with malicious intent will result in a ban.
